From backing Ural Thomas live and The Decemberists on record, Moorea Masa has just stepped out on her own—and is wowing audiences in the process with her delicate, warming and beautiful sound. Named for a heart-shaped, tropical island yet born a native Oregonian, Masa’s sound is informed by world travels and time spent with Flamenco musicians in Spain as well as the local Portland artists around her. At age 22, her recently released debut EP, Oh Mother, “packs an incredible amount of learning, living, traveling and talent into such a brief time,” writes Andrea Janda of Vortex Music Magazine. “Oh Mother represents a mending and completion of a cycle on many levels.” Listen to that process below.
